Attempted Out Of Court Settlement Between Ibrahim Mahama And Wontumi

Press Release By The United Cadres’ Front On The Attempted Out Of Court Settlement Between Ibrahim Mahama And Wontumi

The United Cadres’ Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has monitored with an exceptional stance against the alleged attempts by the Otumfuor, Osei Tutu II and other distinguished citizens at settling the civil case between Mr. Ibrahim Mahama verses the Asante Region’s Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Benard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi.
The UCF is not a hard-liner grouping against such peaceful attempts by well-meaning and respected statements at such settlements. But we take a position against politicians who have the penchant at raising unnecessary political dust that is capable at blinding all of us into confusion – be NPP or NDC.
We all witnessed the venom with which Chairman Wontumi made the wild allegations against Ibrahim Mahama and the sitting President, to the effect that the President and his brother were stashing Ghanaians money into South Africa for rendez-vous. These violent statements were not said in the comfort of his private residence but at a public rally.
What was the motive behind the NPP Asante region Chairman’s unfounded allegation? It was a clear attempt at inciting Ghanaian and especially those in the Asante region against the President, his brother and the Government of Ghana on the ticket of the NDC. The discerning citizens who listened to him however, disappointed the rubble-rouser.
When the unfortunate vituperation was made by the man that ‘no one can battle’, the NPP leadership saw nothing wrong with it. The statements since March of 2014, has not been officially or unofficially condemned by the party or any other organization within traditional leadership. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have also not been heard.
The UCF have no doubts in our minds that the revered Otumfour means well in his attempt at an out-of –court settlement. However, monitoring media reports capturing Wontumi’s side, we see no regrets in his tone via his legal counsel.
We are by this statement not urging Mr. Ibrahim Mahama to dis-regard the Otumfour’s effort, but that the ‘powerful’ Wontumi man must be seen to powerfully condemn his own damning statements and retract same by organizing a similar platform from which he issued them.

If Wontumi sees this proposal as unacceptable then the UCF can only urge Ibrahim Mahama to accord the Otumfour the desired respect by explaining the damage done him and his brother – the President and pursue the case judicially to its conclusion.

We stand by you. Aluta Continua!
