An Open Letter to NPP GS Kwabena Agyapong

It’s been some eight months now since your election as the General Secretary (GS) of the NPP. And since your swearing into office, a lot has happened in the party you pledged to steer into victory in the next general elections. I will spare you a recap of some of the unfortunate events you were confronted with. As you quite understand, politics is very confrontational and you might have been ready for such confrontations as you and the rest of the leadership would want to chart a new path that will lead us to victory. Two things I want to remind you of, because we do not have the luxury of time to keep waiting: oiling of party machinery and decentralization of party administration.

In the course of your campaign, you brought to our attention that you had discovered that our party machines were left rusty and needed oiling. You said you were going to make sure we had a well-oiled machinery to run the mills in the coming general elections. The fact is that, after being in opposition for six years, some of the machines have completely broken down; in other instances, they are no where to be found as you might have discovered in your campaign tour.

The second thing I want to remind you of is the need to decentralize our party administration. Party offices need to be well resourced in terms of personnel and equipment if your proposed decentralization is to work. The situation where party machinery and offices are activated only during elections year should be discouraged. At least Constituency Head Offices should be well-resourced, and quickly because it is needless for people to travel to Accra to get party cards. This is just a reminder.

I hope you will pay attention to these crucial issues as they will affect our party performance greatly. Long live NPP! Long live Ghana! Happy New Year!
