An Open Letter To The Gender,Children And Social Protection Minister

Nana Oye Lithur, Minister Children Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur, Minister Children Social Protection

Madam Minister, some of us cherished you were a private Gender and Human Rights Activist, with your fine and heart piercing articles in the dailies. Madam Oye Lithur,I’m a friend of yours on facebook and we don’t see or read anything concerning your ministry or having direct impact on us but we only read you when you are about travelling or just returned to from your numerous trips.
There are so many Gender related issues affecting both women and the Girl Child that needs your immediate attention, but we don’t see or hear from you. Please don’t tell us your male deputy will see to things when you are not in town,Madam Rebecca Apor according to you couldn’t control things even though she was a woman just like you,how much more Mr.Alexander Ackon who isn’t a Gender Activist and for that matter cant react to issues that you would’ve done best.
Madam Oye,I don’t know if you aware of the the recent Early Marriages going on in some parts of the Northern Region, especially Sissala East District in the Upper West Region. I once prompted you on your facebook wall about the figures UNICEF GHANA gave about early marriages in Ghana,in the report they said young girls as early as 15 years go into marriages!you said nothing on that until ADOM TV’s Nana Yaa Brefo and her able crew went there to make the story public about poor girls under the age of 17 who go through abduction.Madam Oye,what has happened to the Children and Social Protection unit of your Ministry?
I see nothing like there’s a Gender Ministry in the country.I weep when I see so many young promising girls working as porters in our big cities ending up getting Pregnant and giving birth to fatherless children. The nation is loosing so many young girls through unsafe abortions due to low attention being given them on Sex education and Girl Child Empowerment. Madam Minister, please re kindle your Human Rights and Gender Activism, the same strength that made the President choose you for this sensitive position.
To end my letter,I think its high time you start delegating other competent people to do your travelling and please have time to study and understand the issues going in the house.
The tax payers pay you to take care of the vulnerable as and when you are needed not for foreign trips that can be done by your deputies or Chief Directrors. Thank You.
