Akufo-Addo's Questionable Victory:

Drug Barons Celebrate

Nana Akufo-Addo has been smuggled in through the back door to lead the NPP into what is destined to be an electoral defeat unparalleled, and segments of the NPP are rejoicing at the questionable victory of Kufuor’s immediate past Foreign Minister.
Of the pockets of people most excited at the questionable victory of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, are people who are neck-deep in the illicit drug trade as well as those associated with the drug business.
In other words, drug barons in and outside Ghana, are very happy that of all the 17 presidential wannabes, it is none other than their choice, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was unconstitutionally appointed to lead the political tradition that has come to be known as the Narcotics Peddlers Party (NPP).
Why are the drug barons happy?
It is simple; Nana Akufo Addo is on record to be a legislator, who of all the things he chose to give life to, is a law that allows for convicted Ghanaian drug dealers to be allowed to return to Ghana to supposedly serve time.
The law, which is known as Transfer of Convicted Persons Act 2007, is Akufo-Addo’s claim to “fame”.
When the likes of John Evans Atta Mills have a public service record that led to, the reformation of Ghana’s tax system, the introduction of VAT and the moving away from sales tax, the introduction of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to provide infrastructure for tertiary institutions, introducing policemen into the security detail of the presidency by making a police officer his official aide-de-camp, etc, Akufo-Addo chooses to use his time in public service to concentrate on pampering convicted drug barons.
It is instructive to note that Akufo-Addo is not interested in all Ghanaians serving time in jails abroad returning to Ghana to serve time; he is only interested in those who have been convicted for being part of the illicit drug trade.
This writer is not going to conjecture whether Akufo-Addo himself is involved in the illicit drug trade. That is not the thrust of this piece.
What is important as at now is the fact that Akufo-Addo has given drug barons enough reason to be happy that he has been appointed flagbearer of the NPP.
Obviously, having pushed for legislation that to all intents and purposes gives comfort to drug dealers, the drug dealers are salivating and frothing at the thought of an Akufo-Addo presidency, which they know will give them more than enough room to operate.
A few months after Akufo-Addo took over from Hackman Owusu Agyemang as the Foreign Minister; over 50 diplomatic passports got “missing” from the safe in his office.
For those who know the building that houses the Foreign Ministry, it can be described as one of the “skyscrapers” in Ghana.
The Minister’s office is located on the fifth floor and it is one of the wonders of the world how the “thief/s” was/were able to break into Akufo-Addo’s office, break into his safe, and make away with the diplomatic passports.
Almost three years on, we don’t know in whose hands those diplomatic passports are.
Would it be wrong to assume that the “missing” diplomatic passports ended up in the hands of some of the drug barons who are jubilating over the appointment of Akufo-Addo as the flagbearer of the NPP?
By the way, what was Akufo-Addo doing keeping passports in his office? Are passports not supposed to be kept in the passport office?
Can Akufo-Addo not be charged with willfully causing financial loss to the state?
Akufo-Addo is related to drugs by marriage as a brother-in-law of his who responds to the name Raymond Amankwaa, served time for dealing in drugs.
As Attorney General, Akufo-Addo succeeded in releasing to Raymond Amankwa, his assets that were seized as a result of his conviction on drug related matters.
A certain Mike Amfo Kwakye, who is seen around Akufo-Addo at all times, also served time in the mid 90’s on drug related charges.
Akufo-Addo’s law chambers, Akufo-Addo Prempeh & Co, are known for representing people charged with drug related offences.
In the infamous Tagor/Alhaji Issah Abbas cocaine trail vis-à-vis the 77 parcels of missing cocaine, Akufo-Addo’s chambers, and in particular, one Kwame Akuffo, were prominent in that case.
Indeed, in the case of Kwame Akufo, he is also the lawyer for Thomas Osei, the junkie who almost killed president Kufuor in that freak accident.
It is a known fact that Thomas Osei was high on a combination of cocaine and alcohol at the time he ran his car into that of Kufuor.
The selfsame Kwame Akuffo, is already boasting that should Akufo-Addo become president, he is going to be the youngest attorney general in Ghana. Wishful thinking indeed!!!
Indeed, thanks to Kofi Wayo, it is now an open secret that Akufo Addo loves drugs, and does not hesitate to inhale the stuff.
Kofi Wayo, a one-time close ally of Akufo-Addo and the NPP, has challenged Akufo-Addo to have a blood test and make the finding public because he knows it for a fact that Akufo-Addo will not be able to pass any such test.
Since Kofi Wayo spoke about three weeks ago, Akufo-Addo has decided to play deaf and dumb pretending not to have heard what Kofi Wayo said. Hiding behind big lawyers to issue threats rather speaks volumes.
Is Akufo-Addo playing the ostrich and hoping that the matter will die a natural death?
Of course, Akufo-Addo is miscalculating because Kofi Wayo has said publicly that he will not let the matter die a natural death.
Also, one key backer of Akufo-Addo, is a certain Kennedy Agyepong, NPP MP for Assin South, who is alleged to be a drug kingpin in Ghana.
Indeed, the said Kennedy Agyepong is believed to have been a business partner of disgraced Eric Amoateng, the NPP MP for Nkoranza North who is currently resting his torso in a New York jail after he was busted by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in the United States for importing into that country, heroin with a street value of not less than $6 million.
Considering the way every joker in the NPP felt like becoming the flagbearer of the party, it would not have been surprising that if Eric Amoateng had succeeded in pushing his heroin and fattened his bank account by $6 million, he too would have attempted to lead the Narcotics Peddlers Party (NPP) and would have paled Allan Cash’s opulence into insignificance.
With Akufo-Addo making it abundantly clear with his actions that his major concern has to do with convicted Ghanaian drug dealers returning to Ghana to supposedly serve their time, and with drug barons jubilating at the prospect of having a president who will be sympathetic to their course, only God will be able to redeem Ghana if Akufo-Addo should mistakenly be given the mandate to govern Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana. Remember also that the scarce resources like taxes that can be used on some fruitful venture will be wasted on drug these imported drug barons serving in Ghanaian jails.
Would it not be extremely dangerous for Ghanaians to place the destiny of their country in the hands of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo?
The drug barons are celebrating and it is up to Ghanaians to make sure that the drug barons don’t celebrate forever – and the only way to do that is to make sure that Akufo-Addo NEVER becomes president of Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana.
If even president Kufuor, who is not known to be a user of hard drugs, has no control of drug barons who have managed to turn Ghana into a major drug dealing hub, only God knows what would happen if Ghanaians allow a man alleged to be a junkie to become their president.
If green leafs are burning, what will happen to dry leafs?
A vote for Akufo-Addo will definitely be a vote for hard drugs.
