C.K Akonnor has passed his first biggest test as Asante Kotoko head coach following his appointment in October after his team defeated Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks to qualify to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The former Ashanti Gold SC boss knew how important this test was to the club and to himself as a promising coach and in his post-match reaction, he, first of all, thanked God for seeing him through this test.
“In the first place before I talk football. I give the glory the glory to God. He is the first of the last and he will continue to be” Akonnor said in his first remarks at the presser.
“Imagine if we have had failed to progress, look at all these fans who came to support us, I would not be able to sleep if we had failed to go through,” he added.
In terms of team building and his “Agroball” philosophy, the former Hearts of Oak trainer still has some work to do but what mattered most on Saturday was the qualification to the next stage which his predecessor Steven Polack failed back in February in the same competition.
The next challenge now is to overcome their opponents in the play-off round to reach the group stage which will be a big success for the former Dreams FC coach.
The Porcupine Warriors have not reached the group stage of the Confederation Cup since 2008 and Akonnor is a man on a mission to make Kotoko great again.
