eShun takes a swipe at VGMA for being unfair to female musicians

eShun eShun

Sensational and beautiful songstress, eShun, has taken a swipe at the recent VGMA for awarding only female vocalist of the year to the women for its 17 years of operation.

She said the VGMA should award more female artist to inspire a lot of ladies since they are doing very well on the musical scene.

eShun said this in an interview with Dr. Pounds on an Accra-Based Radio Station Hitz 103.9 FM.

“For the past 17 years in the life of the Ghana Music Awards no female has won Artiste of the year”, she stated.

The New Gurl hit maker, said organizers need to be fair to the females in the music industry and help project female artists in the music industry, adding that a lot of female artists like Irene Logan, Becca, Yaa Yaa, Kaakie, Efya and others are doing a lot that needs to be recognized on a stage like that.

“I agree the music industry is a very competitive one. But I believe the women are pulling their weights and pushing and deserve to be recognized. Looking at the recent past VGMA, only one female that is MzVee won an award for the Best Female vocalist of the year.

It's not encouraging at all and not fair to women in the industry. Don’t we also deserve to win the Artiste of the Year?” She quizzed.

The songstress said the organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, VGMA, need to use their medium to project female artist in the country and also promote gender parity in the country’s music industry.

“Yaa Yaa had an awesome video done for her Dumb Drum Song. Couldn’t that have won the Music Video of the Year? Out of 29 categories, the women were given only 1. Is that fair?” eShun questioned.

eShun expressed worry about how TV3 has been treating their reality show contestants after the show, adding that they are often left to their fate after the show.

Recounting her experience, she said after her first track Meye, she took the music video to the station only to be denied airplay though they took the CD. Meanwhile, in the contract the TV station is to play their works for three months after the reality show. eShun said she had to beg at some point in time to be given a minute interview on their network.

The Dance with Daddy hit maker mentioned Roselyn Akosua Mantey, popularly called Akos, who won the Season VII of the station’s flagship reality show, mentor, who has been left on the hook like that. She said TV3 need to up their game and go beyond just organizing reality shows but ensure the talents of the contestants are fully developed.

She was full of praise to Kiki Benson, Kofi Mills, Bola Ray, Team eShun Hype and her Management Team, Quophimens Musiq. She thanked all the DJ’s and TV and Radio Personalities across the country who have been supportive of her works. She also thanked her fans.
