Coronavirus: Don’t get immersed in the Friday spirit today – Oti Adjei cautions

Sure there are those who cannot afford to miss ‘chilling’ on Fridays as a way to unwind from a tedious week and also catch up with friends. Today may not be an exception.

However, in the scare of the global pandemic coronavirus, Head of Sports and broadcast journalist with Media General, Michael Oti Adjei, has advised Friday night enthusiasts to put a hold on hanging out and rather go home.

According to him, it is a way to make social distancing effective as part of the measures to control a widespread of the coronavirus.

In a post on Twitter, he adviced, “Today is a Friday and so generally boys will get phone calls or friends will call you to sit down here…there will be many people making those phone calls today trying to convince you that it’s not a big deal…that a trip to the bar won’t cause any problem…that when you go public doesn’t change anything.”

He added, “That sitting down with the same group you sit down with is not going to solve the problem. Don’t believe them. Take personal responsibility for your own health and the health of the nation.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 15, 2020, issued a directive that all outdoor events including funerals, Church activities and naming ceremonies, to be suspended in the wake of coronavirus.

Schools have also been asked to close down temporarily for a period of 4 weeks.

This, according to Akufo-Addo, are precautionary measures to fight the virus and prevent any widespread after 6 cases have been confirmed in Ghana.

In agreement to what the President said Oti Adjei said that staying mostly indoors was the only way to beat the coronavirus which Ghana has already 16 confirmed cases.

He further said the move is to show a level of responsibility not just to individuals alone but to everyone.

He suggested that, “Maybe we can do a playlist of the songs that we love…Watch your favourite series. Take a walk. Take that drive alone. Don’t get immersed in the Friday night thing today.”
