Ghanaian born rapper Grey now rebranded as Yaw Grey has described most rappers as kids and not of standard, especially names of greatest of all time (GOAT) list released by Ghana’s celebrated producer and some influential people in the music industry. During an interview with him on “Showbiz Agenda” on Accra based radio station Zylofon FM 102.1, he expressed how disappointed he felt when the greatest of all time (GOAT) list circulated and he found his name missing in it.

According to him, Ghana’s most popular producer and sound engineer Hammer knowing his status in the rap game and ignoring him in his greatest of the all-time list was a surprise to him.”

I was disappointed in the greatest of all-time list. I mean there are a lot who just came and their names were found there. I will meet Hammer and he will be like Grey you dey rap ooo! And he will do a list and my name would not be there, it is a bit shocking.

I wouldn’t say he hates me but it has made me realize that is not everyone who talks about you who really wants to help you. I have seen many lists and my name wasn’t there. It is only Dr. Cann that made the top 100 and my name was not in the top 50 but was down and I started laughing. Hammer knowing my state of mind and status and he could do a list without my name, I was disappointed but it helped me learned a lot” he narrated.

Talking about the rebranding of his name, he revealed that he wanted many to recognize him as he is not known by many in the industry now, saying he is coming in the industry as an upcoming artiste.

“I rebranded to Yaw Grey because with the Grey, when I put something on the internet, you suffer before getting it. People know Medikal, they know Kuami Eugene but don’t know Grey so I’m coming as an upcoming artiste, not an already known artiste” he said.

He further expressed his willingness to be signed onto a record label. According to him, he will only accept to be signed by a record label if only his dream and his mission as an artist is in line with that record label.

Yaw Grey excitingly expressed his admiration for rapper Medikal and his works in the music industry. Talking about him, he said he respects him not just as an artist but also as a businessman.

“I really love and respect Medikal. I don’t just respect him as an artist but also as a businessman. He is doing things I would have loved to do” he explained.

He also stressed out the wrong perception people have about freestyles, saying what most people termed as freestyle isn’t a freestyle but on top of the mind.

According to him, what most rappers claim to call their freestyles is not as they usually write and rehearse before going to the studio. He described most freestyles of Ghana’s heavyweight Sarkodie as ” off the mind” saying he( Sarkodie) normally writes and rehearses them before going to the studio.

“What people normally call freestyles, are not but rather off the mind. Most of them are written and rehearsed in the house before they are being performed. Everything written before it`s being performed isn’t a freestyle but off the mic. Most of Sarkodie’s freestyles are not freestyles but rather off the mic but people don’t know” he revealed.

Adding to this, he disclosed to the host Sammy Flex that rapper Sarkodie last revealed to him, how he wanted to be like him, saying he never had any doubt Sarkodie wouldn’t reach the level he is today.

“Sarkodie, I really love that boy. He ever walked to me, and said! Grey I wanted to rap like you. I never doubted that he wouldn’t reach where he is today. I wouldn’t say Criss waddle is broke but he can’t use his money to buy the level Sarkodie has reached with his music” he added.
