A renowned marriage counselor, Counselor kwaku Edumatta has advised young people to lay a very good foundation before thinking of marriage.

“Every good marriage is largely based on a good foundation’’ he said.

Speaking on Efisem show on Atinka FM, with Akosua Agyeiwaa Bonsu (High-Tension), counselor Edumatta noted that people have the impression that marriage is all about wedding, warning them that, ”let’s bear in mind that marriage is not about wedding.’’

Many young men and women enter into marriage with the mindset that they are perfect, adding that being perfect is not the solution and that no one is perfect when it comes to marriage affairs.

“Marriage is a long term journey that has no end and till death do as part,’’ he explained.

Counselor Edumatta continued that People who admit they do not know everything humbles themselves, “Because marriage is all about learning from each other to make it work’’.

“Marriage is between two people, marital life comes with many issues and these issues must be solved within the confines of the marriage. Going out to broadcast problems happening in marriage is just like exposing ones nakedness to the public,” he said.

He therefore entreated couples to call upon God and help each other in solving marital problems.

“Marriage is not about competition but it is about complementing each other,” he added.

For his part, the Group Chaplain of Tobinco group of companies, Pastor Emmanuel Yeribi mentioned that foundation forms the basis for building anything at all in life.

Pastor Yeribi observed that, back in the days, when people were in courtship, they kept themselves pure.

“The women don’t visit the man to cook or wash for him but now a days, many people live as married people even before getting married,” he said.

According to him, this has brought about loss of trust and the foundation of marriage is destroyed many problems facing marriages is due to a weak foundation, he stated alluding to Psalm 11:3.

Pastor Yeribi also emphasised that many people do not like to go through counseling before marriage, saying that, “People must be convinced to see the relevance of counseling since it helps prepare them for marriage.”

He concluded by advising young men and women to avoid spending so much into weeding which will later end in disaster; but rather has long term goals and sacrifices the short term goals for the sustainable long term goals.
