Broadcast Journalist with Accra-based Adom FM, Afia Pokua popularly called ‘Vim Lady’ has disclosed that she gets excited when people describe her as a villager due to her punchy delivery style.

Afia Pokua who has mastered the craft of creating drama in people’s minds during her news presentation said tagging her names shows that she has delivered her job very well in which her listeners embrace her make-believe style.

She observed that not all radio anchors have the skills or power of drawing people to their world or space when reading news by making it real.

Vim Lady stressed that she doesn’t get offended when she is insulted when people listen to her Twi news presentation adding that it shows she performed creditably to the satisfaction of her listeners home and abroad.

According to her, she has to work to achieve her aim of increasing listenership for the station by being creative with her style of delivery.

‘I get excited when people call me villager, once I’m able to make you (listeners) laugh, once I’m able to make you feel that I’m a villager in what I have created, then my job is done, then I’m able to earn my salary,’ she explained in an interview with Hitz FM sighted by MyNewsGh.com.

Afia Pokua refuted claims that she cannot express herself in the English language saying it will be an indictment on her part not to be fluent in the Queen’s language.

Recounting her story, Vim Lady said she became a Journalist purely by accident after her senior high education where she was encouraged by her brother to go for journalism course.

She said she took up the challenge after she stopped Offinso training college during her first term and started writing for P&P whiles in journalism school.

Afia Pokua said she got the job without being interviewed and started receiving her salary.

‘I’m forever grateful to the boss of PNP Mr Vanderpuye, he’s a perfectionist, you can’t please him, you can’t meet his standard, but that was a good training for me and that also made me a hardcore. Mr Vanderpuye was hard so you have to think above him, every day he makes you think on your feet,’ she explained.

She said she later joined Adom FM when she stopped working for PNP adding that her passion, zeal and determination have made her one of the pillars in the media industry.
