Aside churning out some of the biggest songs of 2018, there seems to be a very good reason many have called that he should be crowned the artist of year.
Named after his debut album ROCKSTAR, Lynx Entertainment protege Kuami Eugene sold a good show to the people of Oseikrom on Saturday December 15, 2018 as other artists including Kidi, Tic, Okyeame Kwame, Strongman, Amerado, Kwesi Arthur, Dope Nation, Bless and many others joined him to celebrate the release of the album at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, VIP Car Park.
Preparation towards the Rockstar Concert
Unlike many other events held in the city, Kuami Eugene and his team were in the Garden City five (5) clear days ahead of the Rockstar Concert, embarking on media tours, engaging the media and fans alike.
Aside organizing a press conference to announce the show, the management also held a special album listening session for selected fans and the media. This was followed by a float through the principal streets of Kumasi.
The build up to the concert was simply amazing.
D-Day - Saturday December 15, 2018
The time was here for the Walaayi hit maker to make himself proud and make a strong case for the Artist of the year title at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (although he has an eye for a different award).
At about 6:56pm, Kuami Eugene came through with Richie for sound check after which he rushed back to the hotel to get ready for showdown.
This clearly meant the event would run behind time since it had been scheduled to start at 7pm. Again, there was a ‘problem’ as a large number of people hovered around the stadium with only a handful inside the venue.
At this moment, I got scared and asked where the fans were considering the excellent reception he had been given in the Ashanti Regional Capital and an assurance of patronising the concert.
Times ticked in faster and having stood all this while, I excused myself from the venue to rest my legs until around 10:30pm when I returned to the venue and OMG! What just happened here? Did anyone announce Jesus Christ had visited the venue? The venue was packed.
I guess my Oseikrom folks were only waiting to get in late.
All this while, the bad boy of urban radio, DJ Aroma and Mensa Jnr (all of YFM Kumasi) were busily turning up the heat with the crowd going crazy as they awaited the main performances.
The show eventually kicked off with a number of artists including Vodafone Icons winner Bogo Blay, Amerado, Dope Nation, Kurl Songz who all delivered excellently.
With time far spent already, the man for whom many had gathered mounted the stage with his chant anthem Boom Bang Bang and once he had done that, there was simply no stopping.
Performing one hit single after the other, Kuami Eugene was joined at one point or the other by artists he had worked with for performances. The order of performances were perfectly synced such that you could see a lot had gone into preproduction. These other acts included Adina, Kwesi Arthur, Kidi, Tic and eventually Okyeame Kwame.
Just like he has done on a few other platforms, Kuami Eugene took the patrons to church especially as it was almost 3am and the blessings from above as he reenacted a scene in the ‘Wish Me Well’ video live on stage with showers of ‘rain’ pouring on him as fireworks erupted from beside the stage.
Quite a contrast it was with ‘fire’ and water!
For the first time, I saw a stage that was not occupied by hundreds of people but band men and DJs only.
Security
Quite a decent crowd, close to nothing was heard of a bad treatment meted out to any patron. The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Army had personnel all over to maintain peace and order.
In all, ROCKSTAR CONCERT was a huge concert and would go down as a great feat for Lynx Entertainment and its protege Kuami Eugene.
