Agona Nsaba gets virgins club

Agona Nsaba (C/R), Nov 11, GNA - A Virgins Club aimed at creating awareness in girls to fight against school dropouts and sexual related issues has been formed at Nsaba in the Agona District.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nsaba, Mrs Doris Aidoo, Chief Patron of the Club, said it was to empower girls and sensitise them on the need for them to abstain from pre-marital sex. She said it was also aimed at educating the girls to lead the crusade against the HIV/AIDS pandemic and to train them in home economics and management.

Mrs Aidoo stated that the Club would educate the members between the ages of five and fourteen on reproductive health, teenage pregnancy and other issues that affected them as girls.

The Patron said they would also be trained on social ethics to avoid habits and acts that did not promote their welfare as girls.

She said the executives of the Club who are Tutors and Pastors have drawn plans to encourage the girls to cultivate reading and learning habits to improve their academic performances.

Mrs Aidoo said they would also be introduced to computers since schools in the area lacked the facilities for such training and appealed to organisations and individuals for assistance in the provision of computers, video decks and cassette tape recorders and other educational materials.

She also called on companies, non-governmental organisations and the District Assembly to support the club financially and materially to achieve its goals.
