With his current contribution to some exceptional music videos like ‘Adwene Fi’ and ‘Never Carry Last’ by DJ Vyrusky and ‘Wish Me Well’ by Kuami Eugene, Rexford Kyei-Sarkodie popularly known as Rex has taken his place among the biggest and most sought after music video producers, filmmakers and cinematographers in the country.

Equipped with a background in cinematography and motion graphics, the 28-year old is the Chief Executive Officer of Cubiq Konection Limited.

Rex who came into the spotlight after releasing his debut, hit single “Ronaldo” with the name “Goldstar” in 2016, has shown great versatility with his transition into video directing and music production.

Sharing the motivation behind some of his recent music videos, the multi-talented artiste said it was his way of helping the music industry to grow and be able to compete favourably with international standards.

According to Rex, who has shot numerous music videos for some Ghanaian and Nigerian big acts including Shatta Wale and Davido, his dream is to make visuals which will go a long way to change the wrong perception about music artistes.

He maintains that, his videos will not only help the artistes sell their brand internationally like every commercial product on the market but will give them the needed recognition at the international front.

“I believe music videos are commercials for artistes and in that light we should not compromise on its content. I dream of being the go to person if let’s say a Kendrick Lamar decides to come to Ghana to shoot a Video. He should look for Rex.

My long term goal is to have a well-established structure by the next 5years which focuses on teaching the art of directing, filming and editing. This, will ensure that when I retired Ghana will still benefit from my knowledge which has been imparted in the youth.

Sharing his short term goal, Rex said he is determined to “direct a Ghanaian movie which will shake up the movie industry.”
“This is currently on course and I must say it will be something Ghanaians will love because they never expected such content can be produced here” he added.

Rex has been the mastermind of many productions currently enjoying massive airplay and hits on YouTube. He has transcended secular music and directed a couple of gospel music videos.

He is a graduate of the University of Ghana where he studied psychology, after which he travelled to South Africa to study cinematography and motion graphics.

He has worked with artistes like, Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Seyi Shay, Mayorkun, Davido, Akoo Nana, Shatta Michy, Pope Skinny, Ruff N Smooth among others.
