Of International Literacy Day; I believe in the total development of all - Dzifa Gomashie

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Chief Executive Officer of Values For Life Ghana (VFL-Ghana), an NGO, has said promoting literacy and skills development are important parts of the impact chain of their work.

She said in championing that cause, VFL-Ghana has set up two community libraries, organize annual reading clinic and teach skills such as Painting, Basket Weaving, Batik, Tie & Dye, Beading Works and Soap Making.

Madam Gomashie, in a statement issued in Accra ahead of the International Literacy Day celebration on September 8, said VFL-Ghana believes in the total development of all.

The International Literacy Day is celebrated every year and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO uses the day to raise awareness on issues that border on adult and child literacy and highlight the changes and improvements being made worldwide in literacy development.

Madam Gomashie said the event on the theme: “Literacy and Skills Development,” tied in with the vision of VFL–Ghana.

It said the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) seeks to mobilize efforts to eradicate poverty and inequalities across the world and improving literacy rates and skills development was an integral part.

“The world is encouraged to ‘ensure inclusive and equitable education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’,” she said.

She said VFL-Ghana provided various social systems to improve lives of children, youth and women in the society.

She said “Our initiatives and activities are in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals numbers four- Quality Education, five- Gender Equality, eight- Decent Work and Economic Growth and ten- Reduced Inequalities are geared to join the UN agencies to ‘transform our world for people and planet.”

She said VFL-Ghana wished to use the opportunity to urge the public to consider supporting to make a difference in the lives of the next generation.

Madam Gomashie said VFL-Ghana joins its partners like the Ghana Education Service, American Embassy in Ghana, Ghana Culture Forum, Promasidor Ghana Limited and Young Educators Foundation in promoting Literacy and Skills Development.

It is also in partnership with 40Roses Foundation, Autism Ambassadors of Ghana, Obaapa Foundation and African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network to wish you all successful International Literacy Day celebrations.
