Accra, Oct 09, GNA - Mr Nicholas Dery, Chairman of the Nandom Youth and Development Association, on Saturday said culture should be seen as a rallying point for uniting people for socio-economic development. He said the country could achieve a peaceful atmosphere especially during this electioneering campaign period through the medium of culture.
Mr Dery was speaking at the first culture bazaar organized by the Nandom Youth and Development Association for people from the three northern regions.
The cultural bazaar featured various cultural performances from the three regions and also showcased traditional northern dishes like Saab popularly called Tuozaafi, Topaane, Kosie, traditional clothing and hunting tool peculiar to the northern regions.
"We are not unaware of the recent hot spots in some parts of the northern sector of Ghana which have impacted negatively on the socio-economic development of our peoples.''
"The promotion of the northern culture in an atmosphere like this is long overdue. Nevertheless, it is still better for us to begin promoting and even commercialising it for the mutual benefit of our people and mankind," Mr Dery added.
He urged the people of the northern regions to continue with handicraft such as weaving of the traditional clothes, baskets and pottery that supplements farming, the traditional source of livelihood.
