AU Day celebrations unnecessary, Africa not united – Trigmatic

Rapper Trigmatic has questioned the celebration of AU Day because in his opinion, the continent is not united.

According to him, the only things that unite Africans are music and sports but music is even not taken seriously on the continent.

Speaking in an interview on the Class Drive with Prince Benjamin on Class91.3FM on AU Day, 25 May 2018, the multiple award-winning artiste said: “I still don’t understand why we celebrate it because I don’t see the unity whether you like it or not…”

“Music is the only thing that binds us as Africans but that’s what we don’t respect. Sports, too, unites us, football, but even music, we’re just having fun, we don’t see it as a tool”.

He noted that he was nearly killed when he made the same statement on a different platform but still stands by his words that Africa is not united, and, therefore, he does not see why AU Day is marked.

Trigmatic further explained that his new single titled ‘Where We Dey Go’ is an attempt to draw people’s attention to the ills of society.

He said he did the song “to question our leaders, question the way we think as Ghanaians, where we are going as a country. I touched on leaders who loot money; I touched on people who’re doing evil and people who in the name of love are killing.”

Trigmatic released his first album in 2010 called ‘Permanent Stains’. The album included his hit singles ‘My Life’, ‘Mefiri Ghana’ and ‘My Jolly’. He got seven nominations making him the highest nominee in the Ghana Music Awards in 2011 and won the Best Rapper of the year award that year.

He has since released a lot of hit songs and added many awards to his gallery.
