How dare you tell us we’re overusing drones – Lil Win to Golden Movie Awards jury

Actor Kojo Nkansah Lil Win has thrown shots at the Jury members of the 2018 Golden Movie Awards Africa, expressing disappointment over claims that Kumawood film makers are overusing drone shots in movies.

Pouring out his frustrations, the actor cum musician told Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM, the jury who made that claim is ignorant about his drone statement.

“When you initiate an award in Ghana and refuse to nominate movies from Kumasi makes your award scheme empty. Everyone creates movie awards and give it out to only Nigerians. Nigerians don’t even market our movies so why do you appreciate them with awards when you’ve Ghanaian film makers doing so well.

“That is why I hardly attend movie awards event. This time when you invite me for any movie awards event, I’ll charge you. They give the awards to those who can pay. The movies they’ve nominated for the Golden Movie Awards are movies not patronised.

“Twi movies are well patronised by all so if you think you can’t nominate them don’t use demeaning words to denigrate us. Don’t say we misuse drones in our movies, what do you mean. is Golden Movie an awards scheme?.”

When asked if film makers in Kumasi will boycott Golden Movie Awards, he replied, “Nobody has said so but for me, I’ve taken that personal decision not to attend any of their awards event.”

According to Lil Win, the members of the jury have discredited them for their drone comment.

Chris Vincent, a member of the Golden Movie Awards is reported to have said “It’s not only Kumawood but even Ghallywood, I have seen so many drone shots that are irrelevant to the story.”

Jury members of the 2018 Golden Movie Awards have expressed general concern about the falling standards of movie production across Africa.

The Golden Movie Awards, which is in its fourth year, is an honorary award scheme which rewards actors, directors and producers across Africa for their diligence and professionalism.

At a press session with this years’ jury, made up of filmmakers and critics from Ghana, Nigeria and Burkina Faso, the members expressed concern that productions received were substandard.

The jury this year has multiple-award winning Nigerian film director and producer, Mildred Okwo as President, while Ghana’s award-winning scriptwriter and film director, Veronica Quashigah is the Vice President.

The jury also includes veteran actress Grace Omaboe; showbiz critic, presenter and public relations officer of the award, Ken Addy; accomplished journalist/strategic communications expert Amba Mpoke-Bigg; United Kingdom-based Ghanaian Film Critic and Journalist Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri; and Ghanaian Filmmaker and Managing Director of Hacky Films, Hackman Asare.

The rest are, Selima Awudu, who has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Digital editing from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI); Rex-Anthony Annan, a Film & Television Executive; Nana Michaels Dzikunu, an event Director and Executive Producer; and Burkina Faso’s Apolline Traore, who has a BFA in Film from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.
