Ghanaian musician and CEO of asumde.com, Charles Nelson, popularly known as Chief Charles has threatened to sue media outfit, Multimedia for copyright infringement on his song titled, “N´asem”.

He revealed on Zylofon FM´s Showbiz Agenda, that he wants to sue the media outfit for the usage of his song on their platform, Adom FM as a theme song for their program, N´asem University which is hosted by Rev Gabriel Ansah.

“I am going to sue Multimedia for using my song on Adom FM. The song which was released in 1998 by the Shepherds was written by me. And for some time now, I have quietly observed my song being played on the platform as a theme song for their show”, he stated.

Chief Charles, who doubles as host for Zylofon Studio on Zylofon TV said owners of songs or artistic works have legal rights to the work and hence, necessary permissions should be sought before the use of their works for commercial gain.

¨You don´t build walls when relationships fail but rather you build bridges so you can always have an opportunity to jaw-jaw. My intellectual property has been used for a period of time now, and I do not think anyone will fault me for taking action because, I have been patient for all these years¨, he lamented

According to Chief Charles, he is taking inspiration from Rex Omar, chairperson for GHAMRO, for his threat to sue Zylofon Music´s Obibini for copyright infringement.

He added that his action is geared towards the fight against copyright infringement on the works of musicians in the country.
