After several setbacks, the 2018 University of Ghana Student’s Representative Council (UG SRC) elections finally came off, Monday, and saw Ewura Karim, a presidential candidate who received an endorsement from musician, Fancy Gadam, lose alongside some other candidates.

Prior to the elections, Fancy Gadam recorded a video of himself urging students of the premier university to cast their votes in favour of Ewura Karim.

But in what appeared to be a keenly contested race, Karim placed third as he polled 1236 votes representing 20.98%. His running mate, Nana Akua Busia, is said to be the granddaughter of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, former Prime Minister of Ghana.

Other candidates, Derrick Schandorf Ayirebi-Acquah polled 317 votes representing 5.30%; while Kingsley Adu-Otchere polled 330 votes representing 5.6%.

None of the candidates had the required 50% + 1 and as per the constitution of the SRC, there would be a runoff between Clement Bofa-Oppong and Sylvester Amoako who topped the polls.

Clement Oppong and his running mate, Kwaku Afful Appiah polled 2174 votes representing 36.90% while Sylvester Amoako and his running mate, Adom Anorkwah polled 1834 votes representing 31.13%.

The runoff is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, 2018, abrantepa.com is informed.

Meanwhile, Cornelia Djordjormey and Smith Dumenyo are General Secretary and Treasurer elect of the UG SRC respectively.

While Mr. Dumenyo run unopposed, Ms. Djordjormey won against Sophia Serwaa Abena Otoo. Djordjormer polled 3568 votes whereas Ms Otoo polled 2314 votes.
