The president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and the Paramount Chief of Osu traditional area, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, has asked Ghanaians to desist from their lackadaisical attitude towards programs and events.

Nii Kinka Dowuona was of the view that, well planned programs are put in place repeatedly for Ghanaians either by the central government or leaders in the various communities across the country but the apathetic attitudes of Ghanaians kill those initiatives even from the start.

“What I have realized is that brilliant programs are put in place by those in authority but at the tail end it looks disoriented, the tail end is not participating and that is lack of community participation” he noted.

According to him, programs organized by those in authority are for the country and members in it and so it beholds on each and every one of them to sustain it and make it known.

“Programs organized are for us the citizenry and nobody else” adding that the perception 'this is for them'; hence we are not included has killed so many well thought programs from the onset,” he said.

He said Ghanaians do not get themselves involved in events organized adding that “I will plead with you all to get yourselves involved in this program”.

On his side the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah said the cosmopolitan nature of Accra makes it the microcosm of Ghana where everybody comes adding that "Accra is the prime location that truly reflects the diversity of Ghanaian culture"

He said, his outfit is all set to support and promote the Ghanaian culture and the City of Accra.

"I as the mayor of Accra and with the entire members of the assembly plead our support and as a key strategic pattern to this program we will make sure that this program accrues all the key benefits that it is due it" he added

Nii Kinka Dowuona and the Mayor of Accra were speaking at the media launch of this year's Ghana carnival slated from June 30th to July 2nd and themed “Using Arts and Culture to promote our Economy" and Homofest which is also slated for October 16th and themed celebrating our cultural heritage and diversity” in Accra.
