There is no unity in the movie industry – Yvonne Nelson

There have been many discussions around the Ghana movie industry with many asking how united the industry is.

The latest to add her voice to the debate is award-winning actress and producer Yvonne Nelson.

According to the actress, she tried gathering signatures from her colleagues to the president of the republic on how the movie industry was deteriorating, a move to seek help for the industry but to her surprise, she didn’t get any support from her colleagues.

She added a radio presenter told her that her campaign to gather signatures from her colleagues would fail and she had wondered why the radio presenter was so confident in what he said until she started the campaign and got no support.

She said she and a few friends including Kweku Elliot, Majid Michel, Kafui Danku and others did all they could by putting forms at vantage points for her colleagues to fill out but to no avail and this is only because there is no unity in the industry.

She claimed that people wondered why it was always her coming up with campaigns and even accused her of wanting to be popular at her expense, a claim she debunked saying if she wanted to go and see the president she could without the help of her colleagues, but in this case she wanted to have a collective approach to presenting the issues affecting the industry to the government.

“I thought I could get my colleagues together to gather signatures but some wondered why is it only Yvonne Nelson always coming up with such ideas so I fell back a little, but I will say kudos to Kafui Danku, Kweku Elliot, Majid Michel, Lucky Lawson, they were very supportive but I realised the industry was not ready for that, just because we are not united”

Asked if she has given up on the project totally Yvonne said the project is still there but I realised it would be very difficult, we are not united. I sent emails out, left forms at various points but like I said, people just didn’t want to do it because they thought someone wanted to be popular that is why she was doing it, but if I wanted to see the president to have a talk I believe I could, but I was trying to get all of us involved but it is quite difficult” she concluded.
