Ghanaians have been unfair to Rocky Dawuni – Epixode

Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Epixode has bemoaned the ‘failure’ of Ghanaians to celebrate Rocky Dawuni who, he believes has over the years sold Ghana to the outside world through his lifestyle and music.

He described as “unfair” how the ace Reggae and Afrobeat Musician Rocky Dawuni has been sidelined and expressed his disappointment at the fact that the latter was only recognised after was nominated for a Grammy.

‘’The only time I saw Ghanaians celebrate Rocky Dawuni was when he was nominated for Grammys, which is quite sad,’’ he said.

Epixode eulogised Rocky Dawuni for upholding Ghana’s culture in his sense of dressing and music.

Eulogising Dawuni, Epixode said, ‘’For us to sit down and just celebrate a man who over the years wears kente, dresses in his traditional outfit, sings songs about how country worldwide and we celebrate him only when he is recognized on Grammy.’’

The dancehall artiste further questioned why contents been generated in Ghana are not getting global attention saying, ‘’why is it that our content are not getting to where, or the masses that we want them to get to?’’

He therefore called for intense education for persons in the music industry to make the sector competitive and attractive enough.

‘’It’s not only about the artiste, it’s not about the manager, it’s not about the record deals, it’s not about the radio, it’s a whole thing that I think we need forums and people to come and educate us more on the business side of it,’’ he stressed.

Rocky Dawuni was the first Ghanaian artiste to earn a Grammy nomination. His album ‘Branches Of The Same Tree’ was nominated in the ‘Best Reggae Album category at the 2016 Grammys.

His sound is ‘Afro Roots’ – a mixture of Reggae, Afrobeat, Highlife and soul music.



Epixode has released his 21 track album titled 3nity. The album features three genres including Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeat.
