Ghana Institute of Journalism hails Evolution Symposium as a success

The SRC of Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) SWAG chapter, on Friday the 23rd of February, successfully hosted the first in a series of campus dialogues under the theme; "The Evolution of the Ghana Sports media over 20 years...as seen through the eyes of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah".

In partnership with ICAAN solutions, the event which attracted a full auditorium of past and present students, had celebrated media personalities addressing the gathering.

Among the speakers, former TV3 newscaster Emma Morrison who's now the head of training and planning at Multi Media Broadcasting, Broadcast Journalist Baaba Tandoh also from Multi Media, veteran sports writer Ekow Asmah, Sports journalist and commentator Kofi Asare Brako, Sports content editor Theodora Oti, Sports Marketing Expert William Diego and Publicist/ Boxing Promoter Mohammed Amin Lamptey.

The main speaker and 20 years anniversary celebrant, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah took participants through his two decades of active engagement in the Ghanaian Sports media at Joy fm, TV3, Metro tv as well as his experiences with other media organisations in Africa; notably Supersport and more recently KWESÉ Sports. Ampofo Ankrah also shared his experiences at the BBC in London.

Such was the level of keen engagement and interaction that the scheduled 45 minutes Q&A session eventually lasted for over 90 minutes.

Chaired by the former deputy Chief Registrar of GIJ Mr Mark Kwami, a range of issues were discussed and debated including how technology has impacted the media during the 20 years period under discussion.

The event rounded up the GIJ-SRC week celebrations which also included the graduation ceremony of Masters students and a homecoming gathering.

Broadcast live on Radio GIJ, the event was also supported by Alo Drink, Hisense, Flexx Soya Meals, Dercol Bags and @HeadGlory.

Organisers say the next Evolution Symposium would be held in April.
