Afia Schwarzenegger and husband in court today

Barring any last-minute hitches, Lawrence Abrokwa, the embattled ex-husband of maverick radio presenter, actress and comedienne, Afia Schwarzenegger, would be arraigned before court today.

Abrokwa is expected to appear before the Accra Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Court to answer charges of assault, threat of harm and publication of obscene material.

His much-anticipated appearance in court today follows a botched attempt last Friday.

Arrest

The former husband of Afia was arrested on August 30, 2017, when an official complaint of an alleged assault was received from the actress and television presenter, known in private life as Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa.

He was cautioned and discharged the same day while investigations were still ongoing, but his mobile telephone was seized.

That same day, police had information of Afia’s video circulating on social media and investigations indicated that the source of the said video – showing Afia’s nakedness and the man she was said to be in bed with – could be Abrokwa.

The telephone was confiscated because the police believed that it was the device he used to record the obscene video.

It is, however, unclear whether Abrokwa is the one who released the naked video of the alleged infidelity involving his wife and another man on social media.

However, Maurice Ampaw, lawyer for Abrokwa, is reported to have said that his client is ready to answer the charges preferred against him, insisting that the court would have to prove that it was Abrokwa who leaked the video to the public.

News broke recently that the vociferous actress was caught in bed with another man barely nine months into her marriage.

Abrokwa purportedly met Afia and her lover in the matrimonial bed and the distraught husband allegedly recorded the scene.

Caught in Action

In the less than three minutes’ video, Afia Schwarzenegger was seen wearing a headscarf and clad in a white towel trying to shield her private parts from the camera.

She was heard screaming and wailing while her husband quizzed her, in Twi, “Is that how you are?’

She was apparently afraid of the threat of being smeared with acid by her husband, as she jumped from one corner of the room to another.

Reports indicate that the man in question (lover) is a Ghanaian-based businessman, who had allegedly been engaged in amorous sexual relationship with Schwarzenegger prior to and after her marriage to Lawrence Abrokwa.

In the video, Abrokwa was heard saying he had been suspecting the extra-marital escapades of his wife until he caught her red-handed with the said man.

Abrokwa purportedly walked into the room when both Afia and her ‘man’ were naked and under a green duvet.

Escape

They both stood up in utter shock with the man trying to cover his nakedness with the duvet while being questioned if he did not know that Afia was a married woman.

The man, who is about 40 years of age, without a word, fled the room in only a pair of black boxer shorts, leaving his clothes behind after Abrokwa had threatened to pour acid on him.

Afia was also seen begging the husband, apparently gripped with fear, when the man threatened to empty the content of a bottle he claimed was acid on her face to disfigure her.

Tit For Tat

Meanwhile, Abrokwa has parried the accusations by Afia that he was also having extra-marital affair with their house help.

He believes the accusation is an attempt by Afia to justify her infidelity.

Abrowa is quoted as having said, “I’m a very good guy who respects each and every other person I come across. Because of that I’m usually liked by people I cross paths with. I had no negative intentions for our maid. The fact that she is a maid doesn’t mean I must disrespect and maltreat her. I did not have any sexual relationship with her. If she (Afia) knew that I was bonking the maid, why did she wait until I caught her with another man in our matrimonial home before coming out with this allegation?”
