Mechanic jailed two years for stealing motor-bike

Nsawam (E/R), April 8, GNA- A Magistrate's court at Nsawam in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, sentenced Clemence Kwesi Anane, a mechanic, to two years' imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a motorbike belonging to Mr Yaw Obimpeh.

Anane, 48, pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Ivy Heward-Mills said stealing has become rampant at Nsawam and its environs and that she would not spare anybody who would be brought before for similar offence. The prosecution said the complainant is a businessman who lived at Tarkwa, while the accused was a motorbike mechanic who lived at Adeiso in the Eastern Region.

The prosecution said about 12 years ago, Mr Obimpeh went to Adeiso with his Yamaha Motorbike but it developed an engine fault and gave it to Anane for repairs.

The prosecution said the accused escaped from Nsawam with the bike until recently when the complainant found him at Nsawam and reported the matter to the Police.
