Work more, talk less - Bisa Kdei urges artistes

Singer Bisa Kdei has debunked assertions that Ghana has no music industry.

The Mansa hit-maker argued that Ghanaian music was highly patronised in the diaspora but the problem was that industry players complain more than they work.

Speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM, Bisa Kdei advised industry players to focus their energies towards improving Ghanaian music rather than complaining.

“We do have a music industry but there is still more room for improvement because when you travel abroad, people really like Ghanaian music and anytime I perform abroad, I get a mixed race crowd. My audience comes from across the world including Liberians and other white folks and it’s amazing and you’ll be surprised hearing an European singing my song Odo Carpenter,” he told show host Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier).

“Sometime back, I went to the UK for a show and had some white folks come on stage to sing my song - I Love You - and I was surprised, so we have an industry but we do not see it.”

Illustrating his point about the global appeal of Ghanaian music, the award-winning artiste recounted how he was received by the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, when he visited the Central African country for a show.

“The problem is, we talk too much instead of putting in work. I think we should put in more work. All I’m saying is let’s work more because in the diaspora, the musicians do a lot of work. When I went to Equatorial Guinea for a show, the president loved me to the extent that he sent a private jet to pick me up and the show was amazing and the indigenes were singing Mansa and Brother Brother. So how they perceive us is not how we perceive ourselves, so let’s put in more work instead of always complaining,” he stressed.
