Entertainment Spots record low patronage on 31st Night

Major entertainment spots in Accra recorded low patronage during the Watch Night as people thronged the churches to seek salvation and to praise their Maker.

A visit to most of the spots by Ghana News Agency between the hours of 2200 on December 31st and 0130 on January 1, 2004 revealed that patronage was poor with either a life band or spinners performing to sparse audience at the centres with empty neatly arranged seats. Abrantee Spot at Abeka Lapaz; Golden Spoon at Tesano; Boomerang at Kaprice; Heavy's at Awudome; Jokers at La; Next Door and Harbin Entertainment Centre, both at Teshie; La Pleasure Beach; Osu Oxford Streets which used to be the hobnob of entertainment activities had very patronage.

In an interview with GNA, Mr Amakye Dede, Musician and Owner Abrantee Spot, attributed the low patronage to financial constraints, fatigue, the numerous church activities and other domestic problems that some Ghanaians were facing.

He, however, gave the assurance that his Spot would continue to give its patrons a pleasurable New Year.

The La Pleasure Beach was doted with mostly whites and few blacks with life bands performing while a Street Carnival organized by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly at Osu Oxford Street was poorly attended.
