Minister charges Drama groups

Ashanti Regional Minister, Sampson Kwaku Boafo, (MP) has charged drama groups not to limit their activities to entertainment alone but must focus on shaping the lifestyles of the youth.

“You must not be self-centred in your activities and think of only the money you will make, but think of how you can help to shape the lives of the youth through your performances since the message you send across go a long way in affecting the lives of the youth.”

Mr. Boafo was speaking to the NAK-Adehye Drama Group when they called on him at his office in Kumasi. The group formed about six months ago, called on him to put their agenda before him and to emphasise that they were committed to complementing government’s crusade against indiscipline.

The Regional Minister said since they were committed to educating the youth they should package their messages in a manner that would benefit not only the youth but also the entire society. Mr Boafo advised the group to stay away from drugs since most artistes had the wrong notion that drugs enhanced their performance and said it would rather ruin them, as drugs were known to have ruined many a talented artiste.

He commended the founders of the group for their vision and efforts to harness the talents of the youth in the Region. Nana Kwasi Antobre, Director of NAK-Adehye Drama Group, said they would tour schools in the Kumasi Metropolis and outside to stage plays on the need for high morality and discipline among the youth. He pledged that their activities would be dedicated to ensuring discipline society.
