HIV forum calls for a legislative against profane music

Asumura (B/A), Aug. 13, GNA - Participants at an HIV/AIDS campaign forum at Asumura in the Asunafo District of Brong Ahafo have reiterated the call for a legislative to curtail the upsurge of profanity in music production.

The forum, organized by "Centre for Concern", a community-based organisation to highlight the devastating effects of the pandemic, said Parliament, National Media Commission (NMC) and the Musicians Association of Ghana (MUSIGA) could collaborate to enact the appropriate law.

The participants condemned the indecency in the music industry, which has gained prominence in both print and electronic media, saying the trend constituted the biggest threat to discipline and the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Mr Samuel Afrane, Asunafo District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, appealed to queen mothers and other women in responsible positions to encourage young girls to join virgin clubs to be able to discuss safe sex and chastity.

He said the educational drive and other programmes being embarked upon to fight the spread of the disease might prove futile if Ghanaians remained adamant and conservative.

Mr. Osei Boateng, founder of the CBO, called on communities living along the frontiers to pay attention to the message on the pandemic because they are the first contact point for "all manner of people" entering the country.

Nana Awuah Asibuo, Chief of Asumura and Acting President of Akrodie Traditional Council appealed to the people to refrain from promiscuity to avoid contracting HIV.
