Workers steal electric cables

New Edubiase (Ash), Aug 3, GNA - The New Edubiase District Police has mounted an intensive search for four workers of Quanash Electrical Enterprise, a Kumasi-based electrical firm, for allegedly stealing electric cables meant for the Adansi-Nyankumasi township electricity project. The suspects, identified only as Morchow, Daniel, Ali Baba and Dauda are alleged to have carted the cables being used by the company for the project in a Kumasi bound passenger.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at New Edubiase, Detective Corporal F.O. Awuah said the Police had a tip off that some people had loaded electrical cables from the palace of the Nyankumasi chief into a Kumasi bound vehicle. He said, even though, some people in the town saw the suspects loading the cables into the vehicle, they did not question them since they were among the workers of the company that was undertaking the project.

However, he said, some citizens informed the Police at New Edubiase and they followed up and impounded the vehicle which had then parked at a car washing bay at the outskirts of New Edubiase. Corporal Awuah said when the suspects saw the Police they took to their heels and the driver was arrested and the cables were sent to the Police station.

He said the driver was, however, granted an inquiry bail since he had no idea of the source of the cables. Corporal Awuah appealed to the general public to assist the Police to arrest the suspects.
