All too soon, another year is here again and the Intercollegiate Personality Pageant is here with us once again. Come Saturday, August 30 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, 10 contestants will vie for the prestigious title that goes with the pageant.
The lucky winner will receive a scholarship for her post-graduate programme, a computer, a set of furniture, some household appliances, fabrics from Woodin and ?5 million cash.
The first runner-up will take away a set of furniture, computer, household appliances, fabrics and ?4 million while the second runner-up will receive ?3 million cash, computer, household appliances and some fabrics.
As a prelude to the final event the 10 contestants in this year's Pageant have initiated a series of activities to raise funds to construct a workshop for the Weija Leprosarium in Accra.
And as part of the fund-raising exercise, the college beauties will sell art and craft products to individuals and corporate bodies at special prices. The targeted amount to be generated is ?30 million.
According to the Technical Director of Studio One, the organisers of the pageant, Mr. Ben Kweku-Duah, the move by the contestants is part of their social responsibilities.
He said the ultimate winner of the pageant will also embark on a special project known as the Pathfinder Project. Under this project, he said, the queen will collaborate with the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) to produce television documentaries to highlight available opportunities on the various job markets to the youth.
During her reign, Miss Intercollegiate Personality 2003 will hold workshops in parts of the country to educate the youth to take the fight against HIV/AIDS seriously and put their health first in whatever they do.
Meanwhile, Studio One is holding talks with the Ministry of Tourism to produce and broadcast a series of documentaries on Ghana's tourism potentials.
Some of the sites to be feature in the documentary are the Tagbo Falls in the Volta Region, the Ankobra Estuaries and the town in which the legendary Yaa Asantewaa, queenmother of Ashanti, was captured. The Sirigu women painters in the north of the country will also be given some exposure in the documentary.
