'Talent supersedes gimmicks' – Akosua Agyapong to musicians

Bubbly Ghanaian musician, Akosua Agyapong, has called on young musicians to focus their energies on developing “the talent” and shun the gimmicks that gives them sudden popularity.

According to the singer who has been an active music icon for 25 years, “longevity” in the field is more guaranteed when there is “pure talent” and creativity at play.

“I tell you what, people will offer you all kinds of advice, but in the end of the day, it’s creativity that speaks for years,” she told Morning Starr host, Kafui Dey.

“There was a time I was to perform at the Arts Center, and this guy who thought I was shy and couldn’t perform offered me something to take. Something to give me more confidence but I didn’t take it. I went and performed to the awe of everyone. That’s why I keep telling the young ones, once you start taking something, you become dependent on it forever.

“I told myself I wouldn’t smoke, I wouldn’t drink or go naked. I will clothe myself, and still, here I am today. The talent supersedes anything else,” she stressed.

The Frema hitmaker, will be celebrating her 25th anniversary in music with the support of some of Ghana’s greatest musicians.

The concert which is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at the Accra International Conference Centre will see her mentor Nana Ampadu, the evergreen rap originator - Gyedu Blay Ambolley, A.B. Crentsil, Rev. Joe Beechem, MzVee, Edem, Becca, Amandzeba, Rex Omar, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Nana Ama McBrown, Sarkodie among others performing.
