Bandex descends on Gospel musicians

Renowned music producer, Ahmed Banda, popularly known as Bandex has chastised gospel musicians for stooping so low to performing at several minor events and taking meagre amount for their labour at such events.

According to Bandex who was speaking on Radio Univers’ Brunch2Lunch show on why gospel artistes are unable to win the Artiste of the Year category at the annual Ghana Music Awards, though most gospel artistes are able to wow the crowd with their stage performances, the manner in which they carry themselves leaves so much to be desired – partly a reason for their inability to win the award.

“I think gospel musicians understand the show but they don’t understand the business aspect of it. Sometimes, they make it seem as if someone is doing them a favour by hiring their services. And that is when they accept any offer that comes with it. They can really perform to entertain; but the question is: how well have they packaged themselves?”

He added, “Kojo Antwi and co will not perform at just anywhere. When you are seen performing at funerals, naming ceremony, churches who at the end of your performance will only say ‘may God bless you’, people become fed up with you. Sometimes, you have to let them miss you for a while. How do you expect to win Artiste of the Year when you don’t appeal to the audience as a result of you performing at almost every small event?”

When show host, Abrantepa asked if that will not be interpreted by some people as a sign of arrogance and/or love for money over the Gospel, Bandex answered in the negative saying, “Gospel musicians pay same charges for studio session as secular musicians. What is wrong then with a gospel musician showing off? Forget about what people will say. Everybody shows off at a certain stage in life. You are protecting your brand.”
