Film maker Evelyn Robinson enters movie industry

Ghana’s movie industry has once again welcomed a female filmmaker, in the person of Evelyn Robinson.

She studied Filmmaking in UK and joins the likes of Leila Djansi, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Selassie Ibrahim, Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Luckie Lawson and a list of other ladies who have produced their own movies, with her debut, ‘Announcement’.

‘Announcement’, which stars some of Ghana’s respected actors as Adjetey Anang, David Dontoh, Anthony Woode, Doris Sackitey, Kafui Danku, Amanda Jissih, Fred Amugi, Albert Jackson-Davis and Peter Ritchie, among others would be outdoored via a red carpet premiering event at the National Theatre in Accra on January 31.

Evelyn hopes she would be accepted with open arms as she enters the Ghanaian movie industry and aims to win large movie audiences with the new movie which is her second screen work after her graduation from film school.

“I decided to go into film because I have the passion for it and I hope for a better career in Ghana’s movie industry,” she said after the movie’s press screening.

Evelyn Robinson, 25, hails from Osu but spent most of her youthful years in the United Kingdom. She attended the University of Exeter, UK, where she graduated with distinction in MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management.

Her undergraduate degree was from the University of Buckingham, UK, where she read Business Management.

Discovering her talent in cinematic story writing, she enrolled for a Directing course at the Met Film School in London, UK. Her love for writing has earned her an enviable skill in writing stories for film.

Evelyn has always been known for her excellence which has brought numerous awards to her table.

Her first production was a TV series titled, ‘Pressure’, which will soon air on national TV. She wrote and directed the series which features a group of eight friends (four young men and four ladies) who meet under some strange circumstances years after completing university.

Her second production ‘Announcement’ is a feature film which she co-wrote with Sir Eugene Osei Denkyi.
