Man Forges Dead Uncle's Documents

A security guard of the K9 Security Services, who allegedly forged obituary documents and supported them with an affidavit to collect a relative’s retirement benefits, last week Tuesday appeared before a circuit court in Accra.

Peter Koetteh Korwo, whose plea was not taken, has been charged with attempt to commit crime, forgery of documents, possessing and issuing forged documents. The relative, Mr. Gregarious Xenyo, a 47-year-old former employee of Lever Brothers was found to be alive.

The court, chaired by Mr. Emmanuel Ankamah, remanded Korwo to re-appear on November 14.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Josweph Kemang said somewhere in 1987, Mr. Xenyo gave his social security card to the accused person for safe-keeping but later requested Korwo to return it.

Korwo told Mr. Xenyo that his card was missing. Later, Korwo succeeded in collecting Mr. Xenyo’s accounts statements from his former employees.

Prosecution said in February this year, Korwo went tot he SSNIT Office at Osu and presented Mr. Xenoy’s SSNIT number and lodged a death survivor’s benefit claim that he was the sole beneficiary of the claims.

Inspector Hemeng said, Korwo also presented an affidavit and obituary documents to prove that Mr. Xenyo was really death.

SSNIT investigations found that Mr. Xenyo was alive. Korwo, who was apprehended and handed over to the police, admitted the offence during interrogation.
