Anas' real-life film, ‘Chameleon’, coming soon

U.K. indie distributor Dogwoof has inked a deal to take British distribution rights along with foreign sales duties for director Ryan Mullins’s Chameleon.

Currently in production, Chameleon is a chronicle of the real-life escapades of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, a deep-cover investigative journalist in Ghana.

Due for completion in late 2014, Chameleon was a well-received pitch at Hotdocs Forum in Toronto, Canada and has also received development and production grants from the Sundance Institute.

The acquisition will see Dogwoof take on sales duties for all territories across all platforms and will include a U.K. distribution deal for a 2015 rollout.

Dogwoof’s move to come on board at an earlier stage of production marks a fresh direction for the distributor.

Other in-production acquisitions include Doug Block’s 112 Weddings and Beeban Kidron’s In Real Life set to premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

The deal for Chameleon is not the first time Dogwoof has worked with the Canadian production banner Eyesteelfilm. Dogwoof distributed the company’s Last Train Home for U.K. audiences in 2011.

Anas Aremeyaw has been called the James Bond of Ghanaian journalism.

He has exposed a sex-trafficking ring by masquerading as a bartender and uncovered deplorable conditions in Accra’s Psychiatric Hospital by admitting himself.
