The Maradonas within & without the Creative Arts Writers of Ghana

For the past few weeks, the Ghanaian entertainment sector has had ever Tom, Dick & Harry talk at it, as well as the Creative Arts Writers have been made to somehow look like that proverbial local dogs that eat any rubbish thrown at them. It is a collective mess, so we (I’m inclusive) all share in it.

Recently, something funny happened here in Ghana and to those who were not able to listen to one of Ghana’s best entertainment program (Entertainment Review), may have missed out of the biggest script of the year 2012. As funny as it seems, I don’t want to talk about it. Period! Yet the Creative Arts Writers of Ghana have sat in the mess and watch things go sour.

Let us answer this with shame, ‘is there any Creative Arts Writers of Ghana Association?’ If not then the basis of sitting late at night, attending events that runs deep into the nights, press soirees, even travel as far as outside the shores of Ghana to celebrate the celebrities we all see, hear or even die to touch or snap with (don’t hiss because if you don’t, someone sitting next to you do); will remain in a state of mockery.

But until then, we shall keep fighting an unjust battle of mediocrity, reporting on every move of biscuit, puff-puff, and Kokonte, Koobi, etc, without any form of respect or whatsoever from the readers and even the celebrities we promote.

But I know that with the recent revelations surfacing in the Ghanaian Entertainment segment of certain orchestration and ‘Maradona’ attitude by those we know and those we don’t know, I know that there’s hope that one day we shall be jolted to the reality of that compass in our breast pocket to show us the way out of the chaotic jungles of our own Babylon.

This is exactly what has been happening before few week’s revelation; the few selfish Creative Arts Writers in Ghana underfed and undereducated the masses with orchestrated stories (though many stories are hundred percent on course) in order to keep the readers in another state of being. And this has been so because certain people have been comme ce-comme ca in attitude and that backfires and remains a weapon of domination in the industry; and like tyranny, hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. It's dearness that gives everything its value.

This isn’t a battle field to start throwing tantrums over who said what or who didn’t say what, I trust our media who art in Ghana, though some persons have almost wanted to turn it into a more subtle and philosophically life of chop make I chop kind of life, now the Creative Arts Writers of Ghana must sit down and confront issues after these few days’ revelations, the warning of repercussion isn’t unlikely.

It is a popular saying and I will repeat it again that he who comes into equity, must come with clean hands. In all this, the Creative Arts Writers in Ghana must be aware that ‘wisdom’ and not ‘money’ is the pride of man.
