Tribunal remands woman for shooting rival

Stella Akakpo, 29, who allegedly shot her rival at Nungua on 16 May and went into hiding has been remanded into prison custody by the Osu Community Tribunal. She will appear again in court on 27 May.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Charles Oduro, Officer-in-charge of the Kpeshie District Police who disclosed this to the Times said the suspect gave herself up to the police and was consequently arrested. He said Stella was provisionally charged with attempted murder and the docket would be forwarded to the Attorney-General?s office as soon as investigations were completed.

Stella allegedly went to Juliana Kpodona (the victim?s) house at down that day and posed as a visitor. When the unsuspecting woman whom she accused of sharing her husband with her opened the door, she (Stella) allegedly engaged her in a quarrel but some neighbours separated them.

The victim was thus asked to go back to her room and sleep but unknown to her and those around, Stella had hidden a pistol in her cloth and shot the victim back when she turned to enter her room. Stella, who lived with her husband, Grand Bless Akakpo at Nungua, on the said day told him at dawn that mosquitoes were disturbing her so she was going to buy some mosquito coil to help them. She then ran to the rival?s house a few metres away and committed the offence.
