OBOLO TO CHELSEA'S RESCUE

Judging from how long it took me to come up with this piece, one can tell that am still reeling from the defeat United inflicted on Chelsea. Not more so than Michael Essien though. He told me personally that he was gutted so much so that, he had to pound fufu all by himself (aka one pound or single pound or aw) ka or do it yourself fufu) in his plush London apartment that same night. Just to quench the pain.

So on a night when relationships were severely put to the test, it was the Red Devils who came out on top. My many United friends and family were duely on hand to rub it in. Everybody had “nice words” to say to me and understandably so, considering I had made so much noise before the game. My misery was compounded when I went to class the next day. A few seats away in front of me was this lady spotting a very bizarre looking and utterly ridiculous Mallam Yahya-like hairdo. From a different angle (YES! It was important I changed my sitting position in order to get a better view of it) it kind of looked like a female version of Original KK Kabobo’s hairstyle in his hey days. Only this time, it was more greasy and colourful.

I was sure this one was for the blues. Having made so much noise, posting comments here and there, sending text messages and doing my best to go all blue, I was extremely psyched for the game. I even threw in my lucky blue boxer shorts for good measure in an attempt “to cover all the aces “ as they say. I was sure not even the English Champions in waiting could take it away from us. So you can see why I have been left feeling the way I do right now. In the course of the game, it was becoming abundantly clear that some Chelsea players have gone way past their prime and probably it is time to go. But that’s not the case with when it comes to Frank Lampard. He is definitely one of the best midfielders in the world, well, that’s only when he’s playing against the likes of Reading, Leyton Orient, Crawley Town etc. when it is a big game (like it was on Tuesday) be sure to see this guy neatly pack up his talent and abilities and put it way up on the top shelf. Never to touch it until the 90 minutes are up(sigh). The way he plays makes me want to come out of self imposed retirement and don the blue jersey. Ok, I know you lot would be laughing out loud right now. But trust me, I was that good. If you don’t believe me, come to Sakora S.D.A park at no.5 and ask of”Obolo”. They would tell you I was a gem, a true cult hero. Chants of “Obolo” rang out around our little arena every Sunday afternoon. A real definition of a “standing 6” literally, up to the time I retired during my stay in Benin. After mysteriously injuring an ankle while climbing the stairs to my room, I knew it was time to call it quits. And if you know Benin (Voodoo) you will understand why. Now how good must a player be for him to be tackled not on the field but on his way home after a fantastic outing on the field?

I guess my point is, on any big game night, me “Obolo” as my adoring fans used to call me,am 10 times way better than Chelsea’s Frank Lampard. I was always going to stop playing anyways as I had to choose between my love for the game on one hand and the risk of giving my mother a heart attack. Nevertheless, congratulations to the final 4. We just can’t wait for the semis. Obviously the tie of that round is Madrid-Barca. Plus there’s the little meetings of those two in the league on Saturday and then in the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday. Just as one analyst said, if your mouth is not watering already over this, then there must be something really wrong with your head…
