Ghanaian rapper Kweku Smoke has addressed claims of a purported rivalry between him and Black Sherif, insisting that he does not harbour any negative feelings towards the “Iron Boy” hitmaker.
Speaking during an X Space, Kweku Smoke explained that the decision to release his album on his birthday was not influenced by Black Sherif or any attempt to compete with him, following conversations surrounding the timing of their projects.
“I don’t have such a mindset, and where I am now, I don’t have such thoughts, and I’m not going to harbour that,” he said.
The rapper also admitted that he used a pair of shorts associated with Black Sherif for his music video, explaining that the clothing style is something he personally enjoys and that both artistes often work with similar designers.

“How do I have such a mind and use the person’s shorts for my video shoot? The shorts are even my favourites that I always wear. The people who manufacture Sherif’s clothes are the same ones that do ours sometimes,” he explained.
According to Kweku Smoke, the presence of Black Sherif’s team of stylists during his video shoot further proves that there is no hidden agenda between them.
“Even when we were shooting our video, his boys were there, his stylists, you know. So how do I say I hate him?” he questioned.
The rapper added that he is very much focused on his journey, admitting that he feels he has some catching up to do and is working towards releasing more albums.
“I feel like I am behind and I’m just trying to drop these albums so I can catch up and be able to carry on. I don’t do my thing because of anyone,” he stated.
Kweku Smoke further defended his decision to release music on his birthday, saying it is a tradition he has followed throughout his career and should not be interpreted as a move against another artiste.
“It’s my birthday, you know, so are they saying I should leave it for someone else even when it’s my birthday? I have never met Black Sherif in person, but I remember speaking with him the last time I was about to do my Revival concert,” he said.
He revealed that although Black Sherif could not attend his concert due to an issue at the time, he still has no personal issues with him and would support him when possible.
“If after my concert I’m not doing anything, I can pull through for his concert. I don’t have a problem,” Kweku Smoke added.
Comparing music rivalry to football fan culture, the rapper said competition among artistes and fans should remain healthy entertainment and not become personal attacks.
“If you look at music well, it is just for fun. It’s like supporting a football game; you just shout out of excitement, and when it’s over, it’s done. This is not a reason for me to kill someone or harbour bad intent about someone,” he said.
Kweku Smoke finally breaks silence about the controversies around him and Black Sherif and added that he use Blacko attire for Bombele video https://t.co/JuFAL7BEtE
