The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has highlighted the importance of indigenous languages in preserving Ghana’s cultural identity.
She described them as powerful tools for transmitting the country's values, spirituality, beliefs and traditions.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Aba Anamoah on Starr FM on November 4, 2026, the Minister stressed that language goes beyond everyday communication, serving as a repository of a people's history, cultural knowledge and way of life.
According to her, indigenous languages play a significant role in passing on important aspects of human existence, including the different stages of life, from one generation to another.

“Language carries so much power and our languages are the mediums through which we pass on the life cycle, the stages of life, the values that we have, our spirituality, our belief system; everything is in the language,” she said.
She further likened the depth and richness of indigenous languages to Ghana's renowned Kente fabric, noting that both reflect the country's cultural diversity and heritage.
“The tapestry that it puts before us is what you can compare with our Kente,” she added.
