Ghanaian singer Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong, popularly known as Becca, has urged young artisans to take advantage of social media to attract customers, describing the platforms as free tools for promoting and growing their businesses.
She made the remarks while speaking to beneficiaries of an outreach programme for artisans organised by the Honeyday Foundation, founded by John Dumelo and his wife.
“Social media is free. If you’re beautiful, post yourself and leverage on it,” she told the beneficiaries.
Becca explained that social media platforms cost nothing to use and encouraged the artisans to use them to attract attention and convert that visibility into sales.
“TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat are all free. Post yourself and when you get the attention and views, make sure your business has an online presence and link your account to your business. So as people are coming to look at you, they will also see your business and patronise you,” she said.
She also reminded the artisans that good customer service was just as important as maintaining an online presence.
“Remember to be kind, polite and respectful to your customers as well,” she added.
John Dumelo is an actor and politician who serves as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon. He was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture on March 13, 2025. His wife, Gifty Mawunya Nkornu, is a lawyer.
Dumelo established the Dumelo Foundation in 2010, with a focus on supporting education and healthcare in underprivileged communities. The foundation has also supported agricultural businesses led by women and young people.
The outreach comes amid the growing use of social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat by young Ghanaian artisans, including hairdressers, tailors, makeup artists and barbers, to showcase their work and attract customers.
