Comedian Lekzy De Comic has come to the defence of media personality Serwaa Amihere, who has faced backlash over her comments on fake designer goods, saying those criticising her do not understand business.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the comedian said he saw nothing wrong with what she said, and accused Ghanaians of focusing on who says something rather than what is said.

‘I didn’t see anything wrong with what she said. Ghanaians we don’t look at the message, we look at the messenger. What she said, if you are not business-minded, you will not understand,’ he said.

He explained the issue from the viewpoint of an entrepreneur whose idea is copied.

‘If you have an idea and you’ve started a business and someone takes your idea to another country to produce with the same brand, it’s not OK,’ he said.

Lekzy argued that buying cheaper counterfeits supports the trade in fakes.

‘Someone has made a product and chooses to sell it for a certain amount, you rather decide to buy the counterfeit product for a cheaper price, you are rather fueling the counterfeit market,’ he said.

He added that there are legitimate and affordable alternatives for people who cannot pay luxury prices, and drew on his own experience abroad.

‘Meanwhile there are legit but affordable brands available. I was in the US and there were good shoes being sold for cheap. They aren’t popular luxury brands but they were good,’ he said.

The comedian also warned that wearing fakes could be embarrassing in some settings.

‘Even when you wear fakes from Ghana and you travel out to countries where they can afford the original and you’re standing around them, you will realise it and be embarrassed,’ he said.

The controversy followed remarks Serwaa Amihere made on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while speaking to mentees at The Complete Ignite Woman session. According to her, she urged women to stop buying fake designer goods such as counterfeit Louis Vuitton and Birkin bags in order to look wealthy, arguing that such items can affect how people are perceived at work.

Some social media users agreed with Serwaa, while others questioned whether it was fair to expect people who cannot afford luxury goods to avoid fakes.
