Former Mentor contestant and media personality Kyei Nwom has claimed that Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene gradually distanced himself from him and other friends after achieving fame.

Speaking on his relationship with the award-winning singer, Kyei Nwom said they shared a close bond before Kuami Eugene was signed to Lynx Entertainment.

He described how they supported Eugene wholeheartedly when he was the only one among their circle to secure a record deal.

According to him, he was so close to Kuami Eugene that he visited the singer’s church to perform and also built a relationship with members of his family.

“There are so many people that fame changes, and there are others for whom fame doesn’t change. One of my friends whose fame changed is Kuami Eugene. You know how cool I was with Kuami Eugene. I have been to Kuami Eugene’s church to sing before. We were very cool. I met his mom, his sister and some other people. We were cool like that,” he said.

Kyei Nwom explained that after Kuami Eugene signed with Lynx Entertainment, he was in a WhatsApp group with other Mentor contestants, who celebrated his success and believed it would eventually create opportunities for all of them.

“He had just been signed at Lynx Entertainment, and we all had a WhatsApp group. He was the only one who had been signed and had a song out and we were all supporting because in our heads if he blows then we would also blow, but that wasn’t the case. We were genuinely very happy for him because we knew we were struggling,” he stated.

However, he alleged that things changed as Kuami Eugene’s career progressed and communication between them gradually faded.

“Maybe the label told him to disassociate himself from us, but I felt sometimes it’s not even about a feature. It’s about checking up on someone and saying, ‘How are you?’ and ‘What’s up?’ because we were so cool,” he added.
