Ghanaian Afrobeats musician Mr Drew has clarified that his recent outburst during an X Space was aimed at social media trolls and not his fans.

The singer said he took offence at how some participants addressed him during the discussion, but insisted his reaction was not aimed at his loyal fans.

According to Mr Drew, some people have misrepresented his comments, making it seem as though he was disrespecting his fans when he was actually responding to trolls who were insulting him.

He stressed that he loves and appreciates his fans but would not tolerate disrespect from anyone.

“It was for the trolls, for the people who were disrespecting me on the space, but right now, it is being changed into something else. You people know I appreciate my fans, so please, don't let anybody change your mind. I love my fans so much, but we will not tolerate disrespect. It wasn't for the fans; it was for the trolls who were on that space,” he clarified.

'I am not your mate' - Mr Drew clashes with a netizen

Background

On October 12, 2026, Mr Drew clashed with some participants during an X Space after taking offence at the way they addressed him.

He argued that differences in age and financial standing should be considered when people interact with him.

The musician had initially created the space to interact with his fans, but the discussion became heated as some participants exchanged words with him.

Although Mr Drew had encouraged his fans to communicate with him informally, he insisted that the conversation should remain respectful.

Tension began when one participant addressed him as “chale”, a popular Ghanaian expression commonly used to refer to a friend or someone of a similar age.

Mr Drew objected to the way he was addressed, warning the participant against treating him as an age mate.

He argued that some social media users wrongly assumed they could speak to him anyhow because he was accessible online.

“I am not your mate. A lot of people think I am their mate, but I am not your mate. A lot of the boys think they are my age mates. When it comes to money and age, I am not your mate, and you need to put that in your head,” he said.

However, the participant accused Mr Drew of being arrogant and questioned his position in the music industry.

The disagreement continued as both sides defended their positions. Mr Drew eventually insulted the participant and threatened to block the account, further fuelling the controversy surrounding the discussion.
