Ghanaian rapper Okese 1 has announced the end of “Amotia Geng,” the movement that has played a major role in his identity and music career, explaining that his decision is based on his faith in God.
In a post on X, the musician said the movement had the potential to become one of the biggest in Ghana.
However, he believes its association with blasphemy made it necessary for him to abandon it.
According to the rapper, his commitment to God has influenced his decision to stop promoting the movement, insisting that his faith was the only reason behind the move.
Okese1 recalls childhood encounter with McBrown
“No More Amotia Geng! That would have been one of the biggest movements in the country, but it was soooo blasphemous to God. And as someone who believes in God sooo much, I had to stop putting it on the Map! …. NO OTHER REASON …. ON GOD!” he wrote.
Amotia is a Twi word used to describe a dwarf or a person of short stature.
Okese 1, born Afrane Frank, established Amotia Geng with friends from Kumasi.
The group initially served as a brotherhood for short, confident, and fashion-conscious men who wanted to make their presence felt on the streets.
The movement gradually grew beyond its original purpose, becoming closely linked to the rapper’s public image, music and fanbase.
Its popularity increased following Okese 1’s breakthrough in 2020 with his hit song “Yie Yie,” which helped establish the Amotia Geng name as a recognisable part of his brand.
