Lawyers for Harold Duodu Norman, the husband of Ghanaian fashion icon Nana Akua Addo, have denied allegations that he assaulted her, claiming that an injury seen in circulating photos and videos occurred during an altercation in 2021.
The lawyers said the injury to Nana Akua Addo’s lip was sustained after she allegedly attempted to stab Norman with a knife during an argument over alleged infidelity.
In a statement issued on October 6, 2026, and signed by Emmanuel Bright Atokoh on behalf of Harold Duodu Norman, the legal team said the photos and videos being circulated online were being used to create a particular public narrative against their client.
The lawyers said the matter is already the subject of criminal investigations by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, as well as ongoing civil proceedings.
They cited the civil case as Rosemond Akua Adobea vrs Harold Duodu Norman, Suit No. DM/06072026.
According to Norman’s lawyers, the incident happened in 2021 after he returned from an event and was accused by Nana Akua Addo of infidelity.
They alleged that during the ensuing argument, Nana Akua Addo attempted to stab Norman with a knife.
The lawyers said Norman, fearing for his life, picked up a dressing mirror with wooden cladding and used it to block the knife as she allegedly swung it towards his chest.
They claimed that the knife struck the mirror, causing it to break into pieces, and that a shard from the broken mirror hit Nana Akua Addo’s lip, resulting in the injury shown in the photos and videos.
“It is therefore categorically false that our client assaulted her leading to the injury as she is speculating online,” the lawyers stated.
Nana Akua Addo reportedly assaulted by husband
They further claimed that Norman immediately took Nana Akua Addo to the hospital for treatment following the incident.
The legal team also made a series of allegations concerning previous incidents in the couple’s marriage.
According to the lawyers, the 2021 incident was not the first time Nana Akua Addo had allegedly attacked Norman.
They claimed it was the third occasion on which she had allegedly stabbed him during their marriage, alongside incidents involving the destruction of household items and injuries to members of the household.
The lawyers said Norman had reported some of the alleged incidents to the police at Nmai Dzorn, Spintex and East Legon.
However, they claimed that he later withdrew the complaints following pleas from Nana Akua Addo’s friends and family, who allegedly appealed to him to protect her public image and preserve the interests of their children.
The lawyers did not provide details of the specific police complaints or the dates on which they were allegedly filed and withdrawn.
The legal team described the current circulation of the photos and videos as a “well calculated attempt” to influence public opinion against their client.
They alleged that Nana Akua Addo had recorded the incident and its aftermath but only released the material about five years later, at a time when the parties are involved in court proceedings.
The lawyers claimed that the publication was intended to elicit public sympathy and divert attention from what they described as “long years of abuse” allegedly suffered by Norman, their children, extended family members and house helps.
These allegations have not been independently established in the statement, and Nana Akua Addo’s response to the claims was not included.
Norman’s lawyers also linked the matter to an ongoing investigation by DOVVSU.
They alleged that Nana Akua Addo has failed to cooperate with investigators since July 2026 following a complaint concerning alleged domestic violence involving the couple’s children.
The lawyers further alleged that medical doctors had previously recommended that Nana Akua Addo undergo psychiatric evaluation, claiming that she had inflicted injuries on members of the household, including her children and house helps, during periods of anger.
The statement did not identify the doctors or provide medical records to substantiate the claim.
The lawyers said the various allegations are connected to criminal and civil proceedings and argued that the issues should therefore be determined through the appropriate legal processes.
They said Norman had decided not to engage in an extensive public response to the allegations because of the ongoing proceedings.
“To the extent that the matters as recounted above are the subject matter of pending court cases, our client has elected to restrain himself from responding to the publicity to abide the decision of the court,” the lawyers stated.
They subsequently urged media organisations and commentators to exercise caution when reporting on the matter.
The statement comes after photos and videos of Nana Akua Addo showing an injury to her lip circulated widely online, with claims that the injury was the result of an alleged assault by her husband.
The competing accounts surrounding the incident are now before the relevant legal authorities, with DOVVSU investigating the criminal complaints and the civil dispute pending before the court.
