Ghanaian Hiplife artiste Dr Oduro, renowned for classics including Abiba and Meeri, is back with a new single that brings together his musical heritage and his work in health.
Titled “Gym,” the new Afrobeats-infused track encourages listeners to embrace physical activity and make exercise a regular part of everyday life.
Produced by King Dee, Gym combines infectious rhythms, energetic percussion and uplifting melodies with a simple but important message about staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The release follows Dr Oduro’s recent health-themed single “Gishiri,” produced by legendary producer Morris Babyface, which has gained attention on Ghanaian radio and music platforms.
While Gishiri focused on the health implications of excessive salt consumption, Gym shifts the conversation to another major aspect of preventive health: physical inactivity.
For Dr Oduro, the transition from Hiplife artiste to pharmacist and health communicator has not meant leaving music behind. Instead, his professional journey has given his music a new dimension.
And Gym demonstrates that evolution without losing the musical identity that first connected him with audiences.
A family touch
One of the song’s standout features is the appearance of Dr. Oduro’s wife, who delivers a soulful and captivating chorus.
Her contribution gives the record a warm, personal quality while complementing the upbeat energy of the production.
It also adds an unexpected family dimension to a song ultimately built around an everyday message: get moving, stay active and take care of your health.
From Abiba to Gym
Decades after making his mark on Ghana’s Hiplife scene, Dr Oduro continues to demonstrate that music can evolve alongside the artiste.
The sound may have changed, and the subject matter may have expanded, but the fundamental connection remains the same: using melody, rhythm and memorable lyrics to communicate with people.
With Gym, Dr Oduro delivers another chapter in that musical journey, this time inviting listeners to trade inactivity for movement and make fitness part of their lifestyle.
