President John Dramani Mahama is expected to walk the runway as part of the upcoming Black Star Fashion Week, Coordinator of the Black Star Experience, Rex Omar, has announced.

Rex Omar said the fashion event, which forms part of the broader Black Star Experience initiative, will take place on November 4 and 7, 2026, with the programme designed to connect emerging Ghanaian fashion designers with established players in the industry.

Speaking to the media at the Ghana Diaspora Town Hall Meeting at the Osu Castle Gardens, he said the event will also seek to bridge the gap between younger and older players in Ghana’s fashion industry.

“For the first time in the history of Ghana, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, will be on the runway,” he said.

The announcement follows President Mahama’s earlier pledge to walk the runway at a Ghana Fashion Week during the launch of the Black Star Experience in May 2025.

At the time, the President said he would change outfits three times and identify the Ghanaian designers behind each outfit.

Rex Omar said the upcoming Black Star Fashion Week will provide a platform for emerging Ghanaian fashion talents and the wider industry to showcase their work and develop new markets.

The November 4 programme will feature a workshop and exhibition in Accra, while the main event on November 7, 2026, will be held in Akosombo.

He explained that taking the event outside Accra is part of efforts to decentralise the Black Star Experience and ensure that its activities reach other parts of the country.

“We don't want the Black Star Experience to be situated only in Accra,” he said.

Rex Omar also announced plans for a Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming event at the Legon Stadium, with Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy and Jamaican artiste Gramps Morgan among those billed to perform alongside other Jamaican artistes.

He said several other activities are also being planned under the Black Star Experience, including an upcoming project that he declined to disclose for now.
