‘This can cause someone to get stroke’ – Kwaku Manu reacts to Laboma demolition

Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur Kwaku Manu has appealed to the government to reconsider the demolition of completed buildings, particularly hotels and other properties near the beach.

Speaking in a video shared on his social media pages on September 14, 2026, Kwaku Manu said the demolitions were painful to watch, especially for people who have invested their life savings or taken loans to put up their properties.

He explained that some property owners may not have recouped their investments before their buildings were demolished, and urged the government to intervene earlier when construction is found to be taking place in prohibited areas.

“I'm pleading with the government. I saw that they were demolishing some buildings at the beach and the ones close to the sea. During the night, the place is very beautiful, and even during the daytime. Many of the buildings are hotels that make people have fun there.

“If you're someone who has ever invested in a building project and you see someone else's building being demolished, you will understand the pain. Some people used loans to build it. Maybe after they built the hotel, they've not been able to recoup their investments yet,” he said.

Kwaku Manu also called for stronger supervision of construction projects, saying authorities should notify property owners to stop work as soon as they discover that a project is being built in an unsuitable location.

“If the place is not suitable for constructing buildings, we're pleading with the government that when they start building the foundation, they should be notified to stop. They should make sure they supervise to stop them from building. If we have to watch them finish the project before making the move, it's very sad. Money has been wasted, and this can cause someone to get stroke,” he stated.

The actor further admitted that some property owners, including himself, sometimes ignore warnings or attempt to influence officials inspecting their projects.

“To us who also build properties, some of us are very stubborn. I know someone who was warned not to continue building, but the person ignored it. I won't exclude myself; sometimes when they come, we try to bribe those who come round to check if we have a permit,” he shared.

Kwaku Manu disclosed that he has also suspended work on a house he is building in Accra because of concerns over its legality, despite having already spent millions of cedis on the project.

“I have a house in Accra that I'm building, but I can't continue. I have spent over millions on the project, but I'm scared to continue it even though people have houses there. Making money is not easy, so if, after everything, you watch them demolish your project, they can even kill themselves or get stroke,” he noted.

He also questioned the fairness of demolishing properties only for the same land to later be sold to another person for development.

“I saw a woman crying, and it's very sad. It shouldn't be that because of someone's personal interest so after demolishing, they will then sell the same land to someone for the person to build there. It wouldn't be fair because we're all Ghanaians,” he added.
